A field held through narrowing and release.
Structural Tension VI is organised around a central constriction in which dark, pale and grey regions are forced into close relation. A broad grey field narrows through the middle of the composition, drawn between darker masses before extending into a sharpened lower interval.
The tension is carried through curvature. Each boundary changes width and direction as neighbouring pressures alter the available space. The large black regions above and to the left remain broad and resistant, while the pale field to the right opens just enough space for the whole structure to remain active.
No element functions as background. The large pale region is part of the pressure system, shaping the constriction as much as the darker fields that oppose it. What appears open is also compressive.
The work becomes complete when the field can sustain this narrowing without either closing the interval or releasing the strain that gives the composition its coherence.
