A field drawn into a diagonal near-closure.
Structural Tension VII is organised around a narrow passage formed by several large regions pressing into the same interval. Dark, pale and grey fields approach one another from different directions, reducing the available space until the composition reaches a highly concentrated point of strain.
The tension is carried through curvature and narrowing. A large dark field holds the centre-left of the work, while a broad grey region stretches across its upper edge and is pulled toward the right. Between them, a pale diagonal interval becomes increasingly thin, creating the most compressed event in the composition.
The field remains open because the surrounding regions continue to redirect one another rather than sealing the passage. What appears stable is in fact held at the edge of closure. Each form depends on the others for its width, direction and proportion.
The work becomes complete when this near-collapse is sustained without resolution, allowing the whole field to remain active through the exact holding of unequal pressures.
